Birthright
by: Randy E. Chambers

I wish I could have taken His place,
but I am not like Him.
Perfect, without blemish,
completely without sin.
I know it may be easy,
right now for me to say.
I would have died in place of Him,
to take His place that day.
For I will never have to face,
a death such as He died.
For if I had I might have tried,
to run away and hide.
But ifs, and speculations,
will never change what is.
He took my rightful birthright,
and He gave me part of His.
I should have died in place of Him,
for all that I have done.
Instead I've gained a Father,
by the death of His own Son.
If I were somehow able,
to travel back in time.
I still could not have taken His place,
for He had taken mine.
